Earlier the former batting coach Grant Flower claimed that that ex-captain Younis Khan once held a knife to his throat after receiving some unwanted advice. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board and the national team touring England refused to comment when asked about the same issue.
These allegations were made during a cricket podcast where Flower spoke about his nearly five-year stint with the national team between 2014 and 2019.
Currently Younis is the batting coach of Pakistan.
While there is no official response about the case, a well-informed source told PTI that the incident was just a friendly banter on the breakfast table and was not a case of threat as described by Flower.
“But the impression being spread by Grant Flower is not entirely true. Younis apparently had jokingly picked up the butter knife and waved it around telling Grant to just let him have his breakfast end not give advice at the breakfast table,” the source said.
Moreover, Flower also mentioned that the head coach Mickey Arthur stepped in at that time to calm Younis down.
Moreover, the PCB source was disappointed with the disclosing of confidential information in public by the former coaches and support staff once their contracts end.
“And they also tend to add salt and pepper to incidents to grab headlines,” he asserted.
